A “digital kiosk” is a free-standing digital sign that can be deployed in high-traffic public areas. Digital signage kiosks are one of today’s most popular forms of “digital signage” due to their modern design and sleek look of digital kiosks. The applications that you can use in digital kiosks are vast but highly effective.

Because a digital kiosk is free-standing, it enables efficient and quick placements. Digital signage kiosks typically come with standard 1080P but can be upgraded to display 4K content.

Digital signage kiosks are commercial grade, built to run 24/7, and come with internal cooling systems that allow for a digital signage kiosk to run without overheating issues consistently.

Popular digital signage kiosks include 43”, 46”, and 55”. The digital kiosks display can be positioned in landscape or portrait.

Using a digital kiosk, you can display any combination of videos, images, promotional media, informational content, and more! The content playing on the digital kiosk can be either updated manually using a USB thumb drive or wirelessly from your computer using cloud-based digital signage software.

Cloud updates are the most popular option for digital signage kiosk content management because:

  • From anywhere you can update the digital kiosk’s content
  • Centrally manage a single or hundreds of digital kiosks content
  • Make real-time instant updates to content
  • Remotely preschedule content to play on specific days and time
  • Stream live weather, news, and social media feed
  • Monitor the status of the digital kiosk content and status

Because digital kiosks are free-standing, the content being displayed is highly visible and can be easily seen at eye level. This makes digital kiosks one of the best forms to advertise and inform.

The average digital kiosk is 5’ high x 3’ w and the screen size ranges from 46” – 55” in a portrait orientation.

  • Eliminates the need to print static signage
  • Remotely change and update the digital kiosk’s content
  • Long lasting with an average of 70,000 hours of usage
  • Minimal technical setup

To remotely manage your digital kiosk content you will need digital signage software that is web-based and user-friendly.

With the right software you will be able to:

  • Display multimedia slideshows, videos, and images
  • Spotlight advertisements, sales, and promotions
  • Add local weather, news feeds, and area traffic
  • YouTube and Upstream videos and playlists
  • Stream social media feeds like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Display custom scrolling text tickers
  • Remotely monitor the digital kiosk’s content
  • Make real-time updates to the digital kiosk content
  • Run proof-of-play reports

You can use digital kiosks to get your message out efficiently. Digital signage kiosks are used to notify, promote and advertise products. Popular ways and industries that you can use a digital kiosk for include:

  • Lobbies
  • Digital directories
  • Zoo’s
  • Medical facilities
  • Retail stores
  • Hotels
  • Museums
  • Amusement parks
  • Corporate environments

Interactive kiosks and digital signage have made it easier to engage and connect with viewers. The advantages of using a digital signage kiosk vary from market to market, but the technology can be customized to fit the needs of any business. Let’s take a look at the top three applications for digital signage kiosks:

Informational Kiosks

Used in public areas informational kiosks are deployed to share on-demand information, customer service notifications, hours of operation, transportation options, weather alerts, and event listings.

Digital Directories

Freestanding digital signage kiosks for way-finding are a great way to provide patrons with concise information. “You are here” maps can be added, directory listings tenants, and other local area maps and be displayed.

Advertising & Promotions Kiosks

Kiosks are a great way to promote new sales, specials, advertisements, and coupons. Also, you can increase brand recognition and loyalty by using digital signage kiosks.

  • This withstands public usage

  • Prevents the digital kiosks from overheating and shutting off
  1. S-PVA Technology

Digital signage is a cost-effective way to improve the customer experience using a display with dynamic and variable content managed over a network and updated in real-time.

A variety of commercial grade displays are available for use in a variety of environments and for different purposes. Commercial grade displays have ruggedized casings and average 12-24 hour run times. They are sealed to keep out dust and contaminants and usually come with a three-year warranty. Some options to right-size the customer’s requirements are:

  • 16×7 Rated
  • 24×7 Rated
  • Video Walls
  • Touch (Interactive) Signage
  • Decorative

Digital signage is a natural choice for reaching large audiences. It’s better than email, printed posters, and bulletin boards because you can:

  • Deliver breaking news in real-time;
  • Change what’s on the screen throughout the day;
  • Show multiple things on a screen at once;
  • Save money by eliminating design, printing, and distribution costs; and
  • Increase revenue by selling display space.

Consumer TVs are less expensive than commercial grade displays, but the few dollars you may save now can come at a high cost in re-installation and non-compatibility. Consumer TVs are built for home use, and not designed for the digital signage customer. Consumer TVs do not have the brightness needed for commercial environments and are not built to withstand longer than 8 hours of daily usage. They will have a strong tendency to overheat or experience burn-in. Commercial signage is designed for computer signals and TVs for cable boxes. Consumer-grade TVs often come with a 1-year depot warranty and will void down to 90 days if put in a business environment. The bottom line does not use consumer TVs where you need commercial signage.

Most digital signage solutions include:

  • Display: LED is most common, with low power requirements, high efficiency, and long life
  • Media Player: Often a small form factor PC or appliance that runs content and displays to the screen.
  • Content Software: A strategic messaging campaign with media such as video, flash, HTML, jpeg/gif graphics, live TV, RSS, and more is standard.
  • Networking: Standard IP networking is most common, and management over the Internet, cellular, or even satellite is available.
  • Mounting: Often includes wall, pole, ceiling, or movable cart.
